PV system available? No problem, because the WPL-A Plus can be easily combined with almost any existing or new PV system. And thanks to the natural propane refrigerant (R290) used, you heat even more efficiently and in an environmentally friendly way – advantages that pay off.
Advantages of the WPL-A Plus heat pump
Stiftung Warentest confirms
Air-source heat pump WPL-A 10.2 Plus HK 400 receives rating "Good (2.2)
The STIEBEL ELTRON heat pump WPL-A 10.2 Plus HK 400 impressed in the heat pump test! Awarded the rating "Good (2.2)", our air-source heat pump scores with high efficiency even in cold climate zones and particularly easy operation via app. Thanks to its low weight, installation is easy for your specialist installer.
Customer testimonial: What our customers say
From oil heating to heat pump – future-proof modernization of an old building
Does a heat pump also work with existing radiators? The Lammert family from Godelheim replaced their oil heating system with a STIEBEL ELTRON heat pump in their home built in 1950. The radiators remained in place; only the bathroom has underfloor heating installed. They share their experiences with their new air-to-water heat pump WPL-A Plus in the video.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which heat pump is right for your home?
When it comes to the question of which heat pump system suits which type of building, the general rule is: There is basically no building for which the use of a heat pump is not possible. With a heat pump, you choose a heating system that uses free energy from air, ground, or groundwater. If you combine your heat pump with a PV system, you further reduce operating costs. In short: From highly energy-efficient new buildings to energetically refurbished or even unrefurbished single-family homes – STIEBEL ELTRON offers suitable heat pump solutions for buildings of nearly any size.
The WPL-A Plus is particularly impressive due to its flexibility in terms of installation location and color selection. Whether on sloping ground, in front of the house, in the garden, or on a flat roof – thanks to the extensive range of accessories, the perfect location can always be found. To achieve a harmonious match between the house façade and the heat pump, the color variants white and anthracite are available.

How efficient are heat pumps?
A heat pump uses renewable energy to heat rooms and prepare domestic hot water. The energy used depends on the type of heat pump: outdoor air for an air-to-water heat pump, ground for a ground-source heat pump, groundwater for a water-to-water heat pump, or indoor air for a domestic hot water heat pump. In combination with underfloor heating, a heat pump can also be used for cooling on hot summer days.
A heat pump is driven by electricity – and extremely efficiently. From one part electricity, a heat pump generates multiple times the amount of heating energy depending on product type and building – a decisive advantage over classic heating systems.
How high are the subsidies for heat pumps?
Subsidies for heat pumps continue to offer high grants in 2026 – despite stricter requirements. For heating system replacement, up to 70% government funding can be obtained. Eligible investment costs are generally capped at a maximum of €30,000. To achieve maximum funding, the following bonuses can be used:
30% base funding for owner-occupiers and/or landlords for all residential and non-residential buildings. 20% climate speed bonus for owner-occupiers if they replace an old oil, coal, night storage, or at least 20-year-old gas heating system. This bonus applies at the full rate until 2028, after which it is reduced by 3 percentage points every two years. 30% income bonus for owner-occupiers with a taxable household income of up to €40,000 per year. 5% efficiency bonus for the use of heat pumps with natural refrigerants (e.g., STIEBEL ELTRON WPL-A series) or geothermal energy as a heat source, or for the use of ground, water, or wastewater heat in heat pumps.

Where are STIEBEL ELTRON heat pumps manufactured?
The origin of our products is a key component of quality and trust for us. Therefore, German and international plants manufacture according to shared standards. Our air-to-water heat pumps of the WPL-A Plus series are produced exclusively in Germany. Production takes place both at our headquarters in Holzminden (Lower Saxony) and in the directly adjacent district town of Höxter (North Rhine-Westphalia). At our modern production sites, we benefit from efficient processes, the highest quality and safety standards, and short delivery routes. The result: durable products with the highest precision. The development and manufacture of our WPL-A Trend heat pump series also largely takes place in Germany. To expand capacity, we additionally rely on cooperation with our production facility in the metropolis of Tianjin (China).
In Europe, we operate additional production sites characterized by high workmanship quality and efficient production processes. At the Arvika (Sweden) location, we primarily develop, produce, and market our WPE-I Plus brine-to-water heat pump, which operates with particularly high energy efficiency and, thanks to its integrated hot water storage tank, meets the highest demands for hot water comfort. The ventilation integral units of the LWZ series, which combine heating, cooling, ventilation, and hot water in one product, are largely manufactured in our modern facilities at the Poprad (Slovakia) site. This location also offers us an ideal balance between quality and cost awareness.
